This piece focuses on bold value shifts and textural mark-making. By utilizing a strictly limited grayscale palette, the work emphasizes form and silhouette over detail. The background is rendered with a soft, cloud-like smokiness that pushes the sharp, jagged highlights of the figure’s costume and makeup forward. This study demonstrates an ability to convey complex human emotion through simplified, graphic shapes and a strong understanding of chiaroscuro. My piece was displayed at NSU Studio 217 Gallery
